They’ve been a bit quiet for a while working on new material but Berlin psych act They Shoot Horses (of Almighty Wire collective) are finally back, a good thing since we were starting to miss them.
Simmering somewhere in Velvet Underground territory, but driven by beats that end up more mechanical aesthetically, They Shoot Horses aren’t a band that’s easily pigeonholed. If you said that theirs is a dark take on 60′s beat with a very long glance in the direction of proto-postpunk acts like Swell Maps, you’d be heading in the right direction. And quite a nice direction that is too.
Playing the ever-welcoming Schokoladen in Mitte June 6th, supported by experimental-psych-chanson Berliners David Hull & The Asteroids and first up on the night at 8pm is Sam Dale, frontman of The Feminists who plays heart-warming folk tunes on his acoustic guitar…when he’s not prancing around wearing make-up and fabulous women’s clothes that is…but who knows, after inventing fem-glam-rock maybe he’ll be the first to start a new trend: glam-folk!
